Local Triathlete wins the 2002 Subaru Triathlon Series championship.

Ben de Bray started his triathlon career while in high school in St. Catharines. An avid runner and swimmer, he was competetive but plagued with injuries. In 1994, Ben made the varsity swim team at Brock University and picked up an old road bike, due mainly to peer pressure, and attempted a duathlon in Niagara on the Lake in which he finished as the 2nd junior. The following year, Ben enlisted the coaching expertise of Kevin Mackinnon and began a more "serious" training program. That year, Ben moved from placing fifth in his age group to eventually being the fastest in the 20-24 year division. Today, Ben continues to train for triathlon while at the same time completing a Master's degree in International Development at the University of Guelph. This year he has won the Subaru Triathlon Series for a fourth year and and hopes to complete Ironman Florida in November.
